Alright, you got the customer in your restaurant, now how do you make them choose certain menu items and, more importantly, to come back for another visit? A successful restaurant menu design is an important factor in achieving these goals.

The most important thing to remember is the menu is your most effective marketing tool.  Professional  
"menu engineering" is the science of  using customer psychology to encourage them to buy high-profit items and influencing how they feel about your restaurant operation as a whole.  The average customer spends less than two minutes looking over the menu.  It is essential that you capitalize on those few crucial minutes.

Item placement,  typeface, font size, color, and appetizing menu descriptions are key elements in comminicating subtle messages about what you want your customers to order. 

The item placement "power position" is on the right page above the center.  And the menu item's position within a list can also affect sales. Customers tend to remember the top two items on a list and the bottom item.  Bold text and boxes and symbols also draw a customer's attention.

Menu item price location  is also very important.  Many customers shop by price.  If you line up the prices on the right margin, some customers will chose the cheapest items. By listing the price at the end of the item description in the same font, size and boldness as the description, the customer  is more apted to be influenced by the description than the cost.

In addition to the actual menu, tabletop advertising pieces are an effective way to feature yourfood items, as customers routinely pick these up and peruse them while they wait. These tabletop pieces are great for advertising your specials, limited-time offers and seasonal items.
